We went to the pool as a family yesterday, the boys, my partner and I. The boys played in the family pool and my partner and I shared a lane and swam laps for an hour. Then we joined the boys and played around with them for another hour and a half. It was a lot of fun.
Sharing a lane with my partner is very different than sharing a lane with a stranger. While I was swimming I thought about why that is the case. Mostly, I’d say, it is because I am not worried about accidentally running into my partner. However, the idea of unintentionally colliding with a stranger makes me wildly uncomfortable. And I think that is why I am so on edge when sharing a lane. I am constantly worried about running into the other person. But with Kell, my partner, if I accidentally hit them with my arm or leg, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. So I am able to relax and just focus on swimming.
So that was my day. All four of us were exhausted by the time we got home. Even Mason (who never runs out of energy) was a little more quiet than usual… for a minute anyway.
